- Chemical composition (%)
-
Chemical composition:
- Carbon (C): Maximum 0.08%, helps reduce the sensitivity of steel to crevice corrosion.
- Chromium (Cr): 18.0-20.0%, provides resistance to corrosion and oxidation.
- Nickel (Ni): 8.0-10.5%, enhances corrosion resistance and flexibility.
- Manganese (Mn): Maximum 2.0%, improves machining properties.
- Silicon (Si): Maximum 1.0%, helps increase durability and corrosion resistance.
- Phosphorus (P) and Sulfur (S): Both are present at maximum levels of 0.045% and 0.030% respectively, keeping the purity of the steel high.
Physical properties:
- Corrosion resistance: SUS 304 has good corrosion resistance in many different environments, including humid environments and mild chemical corrosion.
- Strength and ductility: SUS 304 combines high tensile strength with toughness, easy to process and shape.
- Heat resistance: This stainless steel has good heat resistance, suitable for applications requiring high temperatures.
- Non-magnetic properties: In the annealed state, SUS 304 is a non-magnetic steel, but can become slightly magnetic when cold worked.
