Vietnam Science and Technology Day recognizes contributions to science, inspiring research and manufacturing. On this occasion, VnExpress presented the 2025 Science Initiative Award - honoring initiatives that contribute to promoting socio-economic development.

The festival with the theme "Science, technology, innovation and digital transformation: Breakthroughs to bring the country into a prosperous and strong era" to celebrate Vietnam Science and Technology Day (May 18), was held on the afternoon of May 16 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 18 Nguyen Du, Hanoi.

On this occasion every year, hundreds of events take place across the country to raise public awareness, arouse pride in Vietnamese intelligence, and spread the spirit of passion for creative work among all classes of people, especially the young generation - the pioneering force in the journey to build the country's future.
This year's festival is held in the context of the science and technology sector focusing on implementing Resolution 57 of the Politburo. The resolution identifies the development of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation as key factors, prerequisites and the best opportunities for Vietnam to make a breakthrough and realize its aspiration to become a rich and powerful nation in the new era.
The event is expected to attract hundreds of domestic and foreign scientists and technology experts, along with representatives from the Government and regulatory agencies. The Ministry of Science and Technology will share directions for developing science and technology, innovation and digital transformation in the coming time.
The Ministry also announced the action program of the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (Nafosted), and listened to the aspirations of the scientific community.
As part of a series of activities on the same day, VnExpress newspaper organized the award ceremony of the 2025 Science Initiative Contest, honoring initiatives that contribute to promoting socio-economic development and bringing value to the community, in the spirit of Resolution 57.
On the sidelines of the event, there will be an exhibition displaying the results of science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation of start-up businesses, institutes, and schools.
Since 2013, May 18 has been chosen as Vietnam Science and Technology Day, associated with an important milestone more than 60 years ago. On May 18, 1963, at the First National Congress of the Vietnam Association for the Dissemination of Science and Technology (the predecessor of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations), President Ho Chi Minh, on behalf of the Central Party and the Government, attended and congratulated, showing special attention to the intellectuals and the development of science and technology in the country.
Over the past 12 years, May 18 has become an occasion to honor scientists, introduce research results and technological achievements, and promote the application of science and technology in production and life.
